The Hong Kong Pops Wind Orchestra was established in 2005 as the first wind orchestra in Hong Kong to be dedicated solely to the performance of pop music. The inaugural public concert in February 2006 was conducted by Mr. Yau Yuen Hing and Mr. Scott Liu. The concert received great enthusiasm by the audience, demonstrating a need for this kind of ensemble in Hong Kong . Band members include many of the professional players, busiest teachers and performers in Hong Kong , including graduates of all major universities in Hong Kong and many over-seas institutions, as well as current Hong Kong music students. The diversity of HKPWO members serves to further enhance the techniques of young wind players.
The fundamental objective of Pop Wind Orchestra is to enrich the lives of citizens weary from a bustling city life, and afford pleasure to music lovers as we believe enchanting music is an essential factor of a good life.
With an artistic aim to boost the pop band music scene in Hong Kong , the band serves as a platform for the development and exchange of contemporary musical knowledge. Although the primary mission of the ensemble is to promote interest in wind band ensembles through the vehicle of popular movie, television and radio music, the ensemble is also committed to education. The band was established with the idea of pairing experienced professional musicians with music students as a way to create a mentoring rehearsal environment where aspiring musicians could "go, observe and learn." Through holding concerts, HKPWO intends to increase our musicians' musical proficiency.
We sincerely hope to bring more alluring music to Hong Kong people in the future. |
